How to use it

Clear

Click the Clearpile icon in the toolbar, then Clear. Every tab is saved, the save is checked, and only then are tabs closed. You’re left with one clean Library tab. Pinned tabs stay unless you turn that off, and incognito windows are never touched.

Piles

Saved tabs are grouped by site right away. Where your computer supports Chrome’s on-device AI, the Library can regroup them by topic and add a short note on why you opened them.

Search

In the Library, type to find any saved tab by title, address, pile name or note. Press / to jump to the search box, and Esc to clear it.

Undo

Puts your last clear back exactly: same windows, same order, pinned tabs and tab groups. It still works after you restart Chrome.

Restore

Reopen one tab, one pile as a named tab group, or a whole clear in a new window. Delete anything you don’t need.

Left behind

Piles you haven’t touched in 3 days or more move to the top, and the toolbar badge shows how many.

FAQ

How does Undo work?

Undo reopens your most recent clear in the same windows, in the same order, with pinned tabs and your original tab groups. It works even after you restart Chrome. If you clear twice, Undo brings back the second clear; both stay in the Library, so you can restore the earlier one from there.

How do I restore a pile?

Open the Library and choose Restore on the pile. It reopens as a named tab group. You can also restore a single tab, or a whole clear in a new window. Restored tabs stay unloaded until you click them, so bringing back hundreds of tabs doesn’t load them all at once. Until you click one, its tab title shows the address.

What happens to my tab groups?

When you clear, Clearpile records the name and color of any tab groups you had. Undo rebuilds them. When you restore a pile, it comes back as a new tab group named after the pile.

Will it close my pinned or incognito tabs?

Pinned tabs stay open unless you turn that setting off. Incognito windows are never touched.

Why are my piles named by site, not by topic?

Topic names use Chrome’s built-in AI model, Gemini Nano, which runs on your computer. It needs a computer that meets Chrome’s requirements for built-in AI and a one-time model download from Chrome, which starts when you click Download AI model. If the model isn’t available, is still downloading, or can’t name a pile, your piles stay grouped by site.

Some tabs didn’t come back. Why?

Chrome won’t let extensions reopen some addresses, for example file:// pages when file access is turned off. Restore and Undo keep going and tell you how many tabs they couldn’t reopen.

Chrome asked “Leave site?” when I cleared. What happened?

Text you’ve typed into a form or draft isn’t saved, only each tab’s address and title. Some sites ask before they close. If you choose Stay, that tab stays open, and it’s still saved in Clearpile.

Does anything leave my device?

No. Everything is stored in Chrome’s extension storage on your computer. Clearpile makes no network requests: no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no ads. AI pile names come from Gemini Nano, which runs on your computer. We never receive your data.

How do I export or delete my data?

In Settings, “Export all (JSON)” saves a copy to your computer, and “Delete all data” removes everything. You can also delete single tabs, piles or clears in the Library. Uninstalling Clearpile deletes everything it stored.
